Usability in virtual worlds
Markus Breuer | General Manager

Description
If we look at the current state of the art of designing projects for virtual worlds, it is easy to see that the idea of applying established principles of (software) usability to these projects seems somewhat arcane to most of the current developers. If you look at Second Life for example, even some of the most famous projects violate basic and long established usability principles. Current projects focus more on "cool buildings" then on providing visitors with easily understood clues and precise feedback. But does it make sense, to try and apply established principles of usability to designing projects in the metaverse? YES! This presentation will show you how a few well-established usability principles can be translated into virtual worlds like Second Life in a straight forward way. Most of these translations can easily be applied to nearly any virtual world with a true 3D setting.
